Housing Group introduces green skills training for workmen

A Housing Group in the Midlands has added green skills such as solar panel installation to training it offers because they see major growth in the renewable sector.

As wells as construction and electrical skills, industry professionals can learn how to install and maintain solar panels at the training centre at Walsall Housing Group. The Skills Centre Manager Tim Rymond said: "Make no mistake, demand for renewable energy will grow at a startling pace. Already it is part and parcel of new-builds and now we are seeing it spread from the commercial to the domestic sector. People are turning to green energy to save money on fuel bills in the long term and reduce their carbon footprint."

The majority of courses are aimed at tradespersons wanting to receive training around renewable energy technology in order to maximise the opportunities from the relatively new market. Those learning can receive industry-accredited courses, an issue that has so far plagued the industry with reports surfacing of under-qualified 'cowboy builders'.
