Forecourts hit by double digit losses

As the AA revealed the UK consumer is being forced to use less petrol in the face of extortionate pump prices, RMI Petrol, who represent petrol retailers and forecourt operators, say their members are suffering as a result.

Brian Madderson, RMI Petrol chairman said: "There is a regional bias with some forecourts in economically challenged areas such as the north-east being hit by double digit % losses whereas in the Home Counties the reduction is not yet so severe. However, some of these losses are magnified by certain supermarkets selling fuel below cost."

According to research by the AA, petrol sales in the first six months of 2011 were £1.7bn less than the same period in 2008.

RMIP are lobbying Government to abandon the proposed Duty increases in 2012, which will increase pump prices by 8.00ppl, including 20% VAT.
