Energy efficiency gets stamp of government approval

A new Government initiative has granted 'Made by Britain' status to the world's only wireless energy management company. The Stockport-based company was nominated by local MP Ann Coffey for the accolade.

WEMSinternational has joined firms like McVities, Land Rover and Rolls Royce to be recognised by the project, which was launched by Business Secretary Vince Cable to celebrate British manufacturing in the last 160 years.

The company made a conscious decision to make their products particularly British, said Steve Dillon, chief executive and founder of WEMSinternational.

Mr Dillon said: "As a company, we made a strategic decision to only manufacture in the UK, as transferring the business overseas would go against the whole premise of the business - saving energy and reducing carbon emissions."

He added that the Government "has a significant role to play in encouraging more businesses to manufacture in the UK by exerting pressure on larger companies that impose unviable contractual agreements on SMEs."

WEMSinternational manufactures and installs wireless energy management systems. According to the company, customers such as BT and Boots have made energy savings of 15-30%.
