Armed forces recruited into renewables

Servicemen leaving the armed forces are being sought after by the renewables sector. Cenex, a centre for low carbon vehicles (LCVs), is teaming up with the Forces' Career Transition Partnership to host an Industry Awareness Day for Service leavers with an engineering background.

Many organisations in the LCV sector already employ ex-Service personnel, but the current skills shortage in the motor industry - which some experts forecast to continue beyond 2015 - could put experienced ex-Servicemen in high demand.

Brendan Connor, Cenex Chairman said: "There exists within the low carbon vehicle sector some very exciting employment opportunities, requiring the kind of skills and experience offered in abundance by many of those leaving the Forces. The pool of vacancies in the low carbon vehicle sector will expand as the UK's prominence as a hub of expertise and activity in this arena grows over the next few years."

The Industry Awareness Day is taking place at the Low Carbon Vehicle 2011 event in Northamptonshire on 8 September.
