Former SSE boss launches own energy company

A former managing director of Scottish & Southern Energy has launched his own energy efficiency company.

Backed by £6bn pure equity from SSE and clean-tech investor Zouk, Adrian Pike has set up Anesco to offer energy efficiency and micro-generation services to commercial and domestic customers, utilising solar power, renewable heating, insulation, and building energy management systems.

Mr Pike, who was in charge of contracting, telecoms and utilities at SSE, set up Anesco with Tim Payne. Together, they have invested more than £200,000 in offices near Reading and expect to create 200 jobs in the coming year. A further 500 jobs are expected to be created in the next three to four years.

Mr Pike said: "Demand for energy efficiency solutions from both the commercial and domestic markets is set to increase dramatically over the coming years. With the strong support and incentives being offered by the UK government, it is likely to create a market worth billions per year.

"We aim to use our expertise in this field to offer services and solutions to both homeowners and businesses alike, whether they need cavity wall insulation for a domestic property, or are planning a multi-million pound commercial project involving a variety of renewable technologies. Anesco's in-house design, delivery and maintenance teams are well placed to serve and deliver these projects."
