AWS tests prototype on Loch Ness

Inverness-based AWS Ocean Energy is testing a device on Loch Ness which is designed to harness wave power to generate electricity.

The AWS-III being tested is smaller than the final version, which the company hopes will be ready for trials in 2012.

Investment of £2.3m was secured from the Scottish government to develop the AWS-III.
