UK’s largest recycling site opens in Scotland

The largest recycling plant in the UK has opened in Scotland.

Brewster Bros' £3.8 million facility in Livingstone is outfitted with high efficiency equipment able to recycle more than 400,000 tonnes of construction, demolition and excavation waste per year.

The waste centre will provide waste management services and recycled aggregates to builders, construction companies, contractors and concrete product producers.

Its launch supports the Scottish Government’s target of recycling 70% of its construction and demolition waste by 2020.

The plant can process and recycle soils and rubble collected by the company from construction sites into high-value sand and gravel, cutting waste disposal costs for  customers while maximising resource recovery.

The company expects an annual turnover of £3 million from the plant.
