It aims to strengthen the UK’s position at the forefront of the rapidly growing global green finance market, while driving private investment to deliver energy security, net zero and environmental objectives. 

COP commitments

The UK hosted the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) international climate conference in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November 2021. For its presidency, the UK Government included the transition of finance models as a priority.

COP particularly focused on

An agreement to double levels of adaptation finance from 2019 by 2025 across all developed countries
collaborating internationally to support specific countries using Just Energy Transition Investment Plans
committing to an increase in ambition on climate action by the Multilateral Development Banks, alongside the launch of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero and the International Sustainability Standards Board
agreeing a post 2025 climate finance goal and associated work programme to work alongside the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Standing Committee on Finance

Carbon capture, usage and storage net zero investment roadmap, 2023

The CCUS investor roadmap outlines joint government and industry commitments to the deployment of CCUS in the UK and sets out the approach to delivering 4 CCUS low carbon industrial clusters, capturing 20-30 MtCO2 per year across the economy by 2030 to help meet the UK’s 2050 net zero target.
