A unique energy buying group you can trust.

Co-op Power – about us

Co-op Power is a unique B2B energy buying group. We’re also a co-operative. That means we work with other businesses, as well as our own vast Food and Funeral care estates, to deliver a market-leading green energy proposition that saves our partners money, reduces their carbon footprint and helps them to meet their sustainability goals.

The Co-op Power difference

Since 1844, it’s been our point of difference to pioneer a better way of doing business. Co-op has always used its buying power to get the best possible value whilst promoting ethical and sustainable practices. It’s what we do. So, it’s no surprise we do this with our energy too. Energy with integrity.

Unlike a traditional broker, we’re in it with you. The Co-op is owned by its 4 million members, has a large a geographical dispersed estate and has one of the largest development programmes in the UK retail market. We’ve been buying green energy for the Co-op since 2003 and have developed a wide-range of award-winning programmes to reduce energy consumption and carbon impact as part of our own journey. This means our interests on procurement and delivery are completely aligned.

“We believe in co-operating for a fairer world. That means doing our fair share, meeting our sustainability goals, and taking the lead on climate change. The next 10 years of carbon management are absolutely critical. What we do now will be the difference between success and failure. Businesses, government and society need to work together to invest in a future powered by clean renewable energy. Cooperation is key to achieving net zero. As a founding partner of future Net Zero, Co-op Power is co-operating to leave our world in a better place.”

A partner you can trust

We’re one of Britain’s most trusted brands. That means we make sure you’re looked after every step of the way. You’ll join more than 40 businesses who are members of Co-op Power, including some of Britain’s biggest organisations like Nationwide Building Society, the RNLI, Emirates Airlines and the National Trust.

Net Zero Targets

The Co-op has a long history of taking the lead on the issues that matter most, from being one of the first businesses recognising the need to tackle climate change, to our many ‘Fairtrade firsts’ and campaigning for social justice. We’ve already reduced our direct carbon emissions by 67% since 2006 and we’re committed to the goal of zero carbon – not just for our estate, but for the whole of our supply chain too.

We can help reduce your energy bills

We’re the biggest energy buying co-operative in the UK. We contract for the supply of 20,000 metering locations, which provide 1.5TWh of power each year (the equivalent of powering 500,000 homes). By working together and pooling our energy procurement with other businesses, we can negotiate more favourable rates for us and our partners, that’s how we’ve saved our partners more than £100 million.

We can help you meet your sustainability goals

As part of our commitment to zero carbon, we’ve helped to build the UK’s renewable energy capacity. All our electricity is clean, 100% renewable from guaranteed REGO sources including 5 wind farms which we’ve helped to develop, a ground mounted PV solar array and a river micro hydro scheme – both the latter of which are connected to Co-op sites by private wires. We’ve also developed some amazingly smart systems to help you be as efficient as possible, from invoice validation and compliance to powerful analytics.
