Renewables company Grenergy has extended its contract with high-tech compan BYD for the supply of large scale storage systems (ESS) for the Oasis de Atacama energy storage project in northern Chile.
With a capacity of 4.1GWh in storage and about 1GW of solar, the Oasis de Atacama project is one of the largest storage projects globally.
Once operational, it will supply clean energy to more than 145,000 homes and prevent the emission of nearly 147,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
The agreement now also includes third phase of the construction process, bringing the total capacity to 3GWh.
Phase 1 of the facility has recently passed the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) check process, which certifies the correct functioning of the batteries for shipment.
David Ruiz de Andrés, Chief Executive Officer of Grenergy said: 'The extension of this strategic agreement with BYD marks a key milestone in our expansion plans, driving storage projects on an unprecedented scale. We continue to consolidate our vision of a more efficient and sustainable energy system with technology that responds to the current and future challenges of the sector.'
