What’s next for Great British Energy?

MPs are currently reviewing the Great British Energy Bill, which seeks to establish a new state-owned company, Great British Energy (GB Energy).

The Bill was introduced to Parliament on 25th July and had its second reading on 5th September.

It is currently being examined by the House of Commons Public Bill Committee, which will scrutinise the Bill.

The committee is accepting written evidence from individuals and organisations who have expertise or interest in the Bill.

The first session of the committee is scheduled for 8th October and it is expected to report by 15th October.

GB Energy would operate independently of the government, with its own leadership and a board of directors.

It would be based in Scotland, although the final location has not yet been decided.

The company would be wholly owned by the Crown and could receive financial support from the government.
