Offshore wind flies into Portugal

Wind energy expert, Ocean Winds has partnered with Martifer Renewable, experts in the Portuguese markets to purchase Portugal’s first offshore floating wind farm.

The companies are collaborating with national and international suppliers to prepare detailed proposals for the wind farm.

Their proposed solutions aim to help Portugal’s climate target of generating 2GW of renewable energy by 2030.

José Pinheiro, Country Manager South Europe for Ocean Winds, said: ‘Portugal is at a unique position of accelerating the development of the proven offshore wind technology off its coasts.

‘Our partnership with Martifer will enable us to deliver efficient, reliable and sustainable offshore wind projects, reinforcing Portugal’s leading position in renewable energy while bringing true value to the country.’

The partnership is expected to bring about economic growth, create jobs and bring new technologies to the Portuguese offshore wind market.

Pedro Duarte, CEO of Martifer Group, said: ‘We will be able to deliver innovation and set new standards of excellence in the offshore wind sector, making a significant contribution to the country's energy transition.’
