Insurers and pension funds in the UK are increasingly looking to diversify their investments across a range of renewable energy technologies.
A recent survey by AlphaReal indicates that almost 85% of these investors seek exposure to multiple renewable energy sources, with a significant focus on onshore wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and ground-mount solar.
Nearly nine in ten respondents plan to increase investments in onshore wind over the next five years.
Currently, nearly 67% of funds have allocations in this sector.
Of those surveyed, almost 30% expect to make significant increases, approximately 57% will make slight increases, nearly 12% will maintain current levels and 1% will make slight decreases.
BESS are also poised for growth, with almost 57% of investors planning significant increases and 25% planning slight increases.
Presently, nearly 63% of the surveyed funds invest in BESS.
Ground-mount solar is another key area, with almost 54% of funds currently investing in it.
Over half (56%) of respondents plan to increase allocations significantly, nearly 15% will make slight increases and 14% will maintain current levels.
