Resource management company Veolia, in collaboration with 3ti solar car park specialists, has initiated renewable electricity generation at Eastbourne District General Hospital (EDGH).

The solar car park (SCP) is predicted to generate 1,000MWh of solar-generated electricity each year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 222 tonnes in the first year.

The new solar array comprises 2,412 solar panels installed across eight canopies that cover 400 car parking spaces.

As a high-energy user, the hospital is expected to benefit from significant savings by producing its renewable electricity on-site, thereby decreasing its reliance on the national grid.

Furthermore, the project addresses the demand for workplace electric vehicle (EV) charging by providing ten solar-powered EV charge points for staff.

This initiative is part of a £27 million energy management contract with Veolia to upgrade Eastbourne District General Hospital.
