Class act! New £10m initiative to help decarbonise schools across England

Class act! New £10m initiative to help decarbonise schools across England

A new £10 million partnership aimed at boosting climate action in schools across England has been announced.

Let's Go Zero, the campaign for all schools to be zero carbon by 2030, has joined forces with Green Future Investments Ltd (GFIL) to bring expert advice to schools, colleges and nurseries via 30 climate advisors in nine regions across England, while also helping unlock finance.

The climate advisors will provide guidance to help schools to move towards more energy efficient buildings, onsite generation, improved green spaced and reduced waste, help develop innovative financial solutions to support new retrofit funding opportunities and boost climate action across England.

The Let's Go Zero campaign, which is currently backed by more than 2,250 schools, helps the organisations work together to lower their carbon emissions, sharing practical advice and linking them with opportunities for funding and other support.

Every school that joins the campaign will pledge to work towards a more sustainable future, while also urging the government to support their mission.

Alex Green, Head of Let’s Go Zero, which is spearheaded by climate solutions charity Ashden, said: “So many schools tell us they are eager to decarbonise but lack the support and investment to do so. This project can spark action in schools across the country – as well as creating impact at a national level. We’re really pleased to be working with Green Future Investments on this ambitious, inspiring initiative.”
