France bans short-haul flights

The ban has been made to cut emissions and fight climate change

Big Zero Show 2023

France has enforced a ban on short-haul flights to cut carbon emissions and fight climate change.

The ban will impact any journey that would take less than 2.5 hours by train – including travel from Paris to Nantes.

Although original plans for the ban in 2021 were for any journey that could be taken via train in four hours, the time was reduced after a battle with the aviation sector.

Connecting flights are the only ones that will be unaffected by the change, as well as ensuring train routes are frequent enough for those that would normally take the trip by air.
