Goal for new solar farm to be size of 56 football pitches

INEOS is investing into one of Belgium’s largest solar farms – set to be the size of 56 football pitches.

With 90,000 panels, the facility will produce 57,000MWh of green electricity each year and provide 10% of INEOS Inovyn’s demand.

The company has stated the farm will prevent 14,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, generating enough electricity to power 16,000 Belgian homes.

INEOS has committed to net zero by 2050, with a 30% reduction in its emissions by 2030.

This HELIOS project will be operational from next year.

Philippe Taranti, INEOS Inovyn Site Director in Belgium, said: “Our roadmap to net zero goes way beyond the use of renewable energy. We are improving our processes, electrifying our systems and replacing old equipment with much more energy-efficient alternatives. We are also involved in CCS projects which are conducting research into permanent carbon storage.”
