Vertex Hydrogen signs 1,000MW green hydrogen agreement

Vertex Hydrogen has signed agreements to supply more than 1,000MW of green hydrogen to UK industry.

Vertex is currently helping to build the first large-scale hydrogen production facility in the country – where HyNet NorthWest will be based.

This hub in Ellesmere Port will also see around 1.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide stored each year, having the equivalent impact of removing 750,000 cars from the road.

The supply of 1,000MW of hydrogen is the same level of energy needed to power a city like Liverpool, the company has said.

Businesses in the locality will buy and use the hydrogen to accelerate their own decarbonisation plans.

Joe Seifert, CEO of Vertex Hydrogen, said: “We have now signed agreements for over 1,000MW of hydrogen – our entire expected production capacity from the initial phases of our project.

“This milestone gives us huge confidence in the economics of the project and the long-term demand for low carbon hydrogen in the coming decades.”
