Glasgow homes get £6.4m for energy efficiency

Close to 2,500 Glaswegian homes in the last year have already been made more energy efficient through a new insulation programme.

This programme now has more than £6.4 million left to spend on upgrading properties within the Scottish city to save on energy and cut carbon emissions.

That’s according to the city’s council, stating that certain areas of Glasgow have been selected to have new insulation measures implemented, as well as water heating controls and electric storage.

To ensure properties receive the efficiency changes needed, the council has said that the regular £1,500 cost of installing external wall insulation will be disregarded.

Councillor Kenny McLean, Convener for Housing at Glasgow City Council, said: “The Affordable Warmth Programme has been helping to make eligible homes in Glasgow more energy efficient for a decade.

“It’s now more important – with high fuel costs, the cost-of-living crisis and the climate emergency – than ever. This programme makes a real difference to people's lives and the city's net zero ambitions.”
