REA: ‘EV infrastructure on course for government goals’

The UK is currently on course to achieve the government’s aim for 300,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers installed by 2030.

That’s according to a new report by the Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology (REA) and New Automotive, revealing some of the latest information on the UK’s EVs.

It reveals that at 70% of public chargers, it is still cheaper to charge your EV than fill up your petrol or diesel car.

This applies for those charging at a rate of less than £0.68 per KWh.

To ensure drivers still feel incentivised to make the switch the electric, the report calls for the government’s Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate to not be ignored for new sales.

This mandate sees carmakers have the necessity to offer a specific number of zero-emission vehicles for sales.

Amy MacConnachie from the REA said: “[This report] is positive messaging for drivers looking to make the switch, reinforcing effective infrastructure and low-cost incentives, putting to bed any ongoing concerns. There must be no delay in introducing the ZEV Mandate for new and increasing EV car sales.”
