A combined total of 42 new EV parking bays have been installed across Perth and Reading – our northern and southern HQs. This will assist our employees in commuting to and from the office with zero emissions, helping us achieve our sustainability goals and switching to EV. The project echoes our ambition to drive the net zero agenda and to be a leader in the green recovery. SSE plc is member of EV100, the Climate Group voluntary scheme to electrify fleets, and is committed to converting its 3,500 strong fleet to EVs by 2030. SSE has also aligned its own business strategy with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including building the flexible electricity network and infrastructure to help accommodate 10m EVs in GB by 2030.

We have a proven track record of bringing innovation to EV infrastructure. Delivering a series of chargers throughout London to help electrify the bus fleet and supporting with the roll out of a UK-wide on street charging network.

We are leading the deployment of the world’s largest vehicle-to-grid (V2G) trial site at Go Ahead London’s Northumberland Park which will run as a ‘virtual power station’ and discharge surplus electricity from buses when they are not in use. We’re also in the process of delivering smart charging hubs across the UK. These Digital Community Hubs (DCHs) will combine rapid charging with 5G and Edge computing technology housed at up to 20 rapid charging bays with onsite refreshments.

“Expanding SSE’s EV charging capacity at our headquarters in England shows we are taking our low carbon ambitions seriously and gives employees the confidence to switch to EVs; and as someone who has just got their own EV I’m delighted. Our message to UK companies is we stand ready to help you go green.” Jonathan Richardson || SSE project manager for the installation at Reading
