Pinterest aims to capture 100% renewable energy by 2023

Image sharing service Pinterest has announced its commitment to purchase 100% renewable energy for its offices globally by 2023.

Its headquarters in San Francisco will initially start receiving 100% green power through CleanPowerSF's SuperGreen programme.

Throughout its global real estate portfolio, it will also buy energy attribute certificates in the countries within the same year the electricity was consumed, in addition to prioritising office spaces that are highly rated and industry-certified by LEED, BREEAM and Energy Star.

Pinterest's commitment to renewable energy builds on its existing efforts to reduce office waste reduction, food waste reduction, save energy in its offices and reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.

Mia Ketterling, Pinterest’s Global Sustainability Lead said: “We strive to create workspaces that nourish employees and are designed and operated in a responsible way.

“Powering our offices with 100% renewable electricity by 2023 is a step in our journey to build a better and more sustainable future for our employees and the global community.”
