Cost of living payment for 6m disabled people from September

Six million disabled people will receive a one-off £150 payment this September to deal with the cost-of-living crisis.

People who already qualify for disability benefits will be automatically paid from 20th September.

The government has offered the payment given that many disabled people require extra care and mobility help.

The need for aid can also incur more energy costs, which are currently at record levels.

For lower income disabled people, cost-of-living payments up to £650 will be available.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Nadhim Zahawi, explained: “This payment is in addition to further help households can expect over the coming months – including a second cost of living payment of £324 for households on means-tested benefits, £300 for pensioners this winter and £400 discount on energy bills for every household. This is all part of our significant £37 billion support package.”
