How can renewables stop our fossil fuel reliance?

How can renewables stop our fossil fuel reliance?

“Accelerating the drive to build more offshore wind is the cheapest, quickest route to secure a clean, home-grown energy system. Once Dogger Bank Wind Farm is fully operational in 2026, it will be the largest in the world, supplying 5% of the UK’s demand and powering six million homes.

“Had it been operational last winter, it would have saved each household about £67, thanks to the design of the UK government’s support mechanism. So, investing today will reduce our future exposure to fossil fuels, support jobs and the growth of the economy.”

That’s the view of Lamé Verre, Head of Strategy at SSE Energy Solutions, who spoke at the Big Zero Show, as part of the Big Zero Lectures.

In case you missed her lecture, she explains how building more renewables and pushing towards net zero is key to cutting our reliance on fossil fuels – and is the solution, not the problem.

Ensuring we invest heavily in wind, solar and other forms of renewable energy will save copious amounts of cash in the future – but how?
