Wigan school to get £24m net zero makeover

Wigan school to get £24m net zero makeover

A school in Wigan is set to benefit from a £24 million redevelopment to make it net zero.

Fred Longworth High School is the subject of the makeover, with construction company BAM winning the contract to start work.

The investment will see a three-storey teaching block built to be net zero in operation, as well as the construction of new, sustainable sports pitches.

Both elements are expected to be completed by 2024, with BAM also starting work on another Wigan school, Byrchall High School, in the next six months.

With a larger premises, 1,350 students can attend Fred Longworth once the works are completed, rather than its current capacity of 1,275.
