Food service provider Aramark aims to serve 25% emissions reduction by 2030

Aramark has made a commitment to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the food it serves in the US by 25% by 2030.

The food service provider claims to be the first contract catering company in the US to sign the World Resources Institute’s (WRI) Cool Food Pledge, which helps organisations commit to and achieve science-based targets to reduce the climate impact of the food they serve.

Organisations serving 940 million meals a year have signed up to the Pledge so far, which includes a target to cut emissions by 25% by 2030, relative to a 2015 baseline.

Aarmark has also pledged to “drastically expand” the availability of plant-forward, lower carbon footprint Cool Food meals to all Higher Education, Workplace Experience and Healthcare businesses in the US in January 2023.

Alan Horowitz, Vice President of Sustainability at Aramark said: “Partnering with WRI on the Cool Food Pledge will help us slash our food-related greenhouse gas emissions, while substantially expanding the availability of Cool Food Meals.

“This will make it easier for more of our guests to make climate-friendly and plant-forward meal choices, which according to our research, is what they increasingly want.”
