Projects to slash industrial emissions share $57.9m US funding

A total of 30 projects in the US will share funding worth $57.9 million (£47m) to reduce industrial emissions and manufacture clean energy technologies.

The projects within industry, universities and national laboratories are expected to help decarbonise the US industrial sector, which accounted for one third of all domestic greenhouse gas emissions in 2021.

That's more than the annual emissions of 630 million fossil fuel passenger vehicles.

The projects will focus on innovations that can help achieve cleaner and more efficient manufacturing and give rise to the next-generation of manufacturing processes for clean energy technologies.

Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm said: “Decarbonising American industry while expanding our capacity to manufacture clean energy technologies is the surest way to meet the nation’s climate and economic goals.

“The technologies funded through this investment will improve productivity, energy efficiency and competitiveness across America's industrial sector, creating good-paying jobs for American workers.”
