Edinburgh’s first ‘net zero’ housing gets underway

Construction has begun at Edinburgh’s first ‘net zero’ housing development.

The project will provide 75 homes and is being in Granton, close to the previous railway building.

To cut heat loss and reduce energy demand in the homes, sturdier fabrics have been used and combined with triple-glazed windows.

Onsite solar panels will be used to generate the electricity needed for the complex, ensuring all energy consumed by the future residents is electric.

Electric vehicle charging points will be available in the car park, with an expectation for completion in summer 2023.

Edinburgh as a city has made a commitment to becoming net zero by 2030.

The developers have stated that carbon offsetting measures will be in place for any remaining emissions.
