Government taking HS2 to Scotland

Government taking HS2 to Scotland

The UK government has announced it will look to remove the Golborne Link from HS2 to link Scotland with the new trains.

The Golborne Link is set to connect HS2 to the West Coast Mainline but subject to approval, will now be removed from the connection between Crewe and Manchester to ensure Scotland is accessible.

Services between London and Glasgow are now planned to be underway once HS2 trains start running, which the government has stated will bring huge economic benefits to Scotland.

HS2 will run on zero-carbon energy and aims to become net zero by 2035.

HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson said: “Removing this link is about ensuring that we’ve left no stone unturned when it comes to working with our Scottish counterparts to find a solution that will best serve the great people of Scotland.”
