New Carbon Neutral Alliance launched at CEMEX’s German cement plant

A new alliance that aims to accelerate the development of innovative technologies to transform CEMEX's Rüdersdorf plant into the “first” carbon-neutral cement facility by 2030 has been launched.

CEMEX and its partners inaugurated the Carbon Neutral Alliance at the facility, which comprises a network of more than 20 private and public entities, dedicated to climate innovation.

Among the technologies being introduced at Rüdersdorf is a waste heat recovery project as well as the development of renewable energy generation.

Sustainable aviation fuel is also expected to be produced on site as a result of CEMEX's co-operation with Sasol and ENERTRAG.

The project, which will become a foundation for CEMEX as it decarbonises the cement production process at its plants, supports its ambition to reduce carbon emissions by 40% by 2030 and become climate-neutral by 2050.

Fernando A. González, CEO of CEMEX said: “At the Rüdersdorf cement plant, we are introducing breakthrough decarbonisation technologies that will bring the world closer to climate neutrality. Each step towards this goal is made easier through co-operation with our business partners.

“We are delighted to be partnering with an alliance of world class industrial experts and with governmental authorities who are as committed as we are to decarbonisation.”
