Rural Cornwall gets £36m Wi-Fi boost

Almost 20,000 rural homes and businesses are set to benefit from government spending to increase broadband accessibility and communication.

The buildings in Cornwall will gain fast internet access, with new infrastructure built and broadband providers now welcomed by the government to submit bids for the £36 million worth of contracts.

Labelled ‘Project Gigabit’, the overall £5 billion project is targeting areas across the UK that hard-to-reach, improving connectivity and moving communication to a cleaner means.

Almost 400 properties in Cornwall have already been connected to the internet through the scheme.

Digital Secretary Nadine Dorries commented: “We have upgraded thousands of schools, libraries and hospitals across the UK to first class broadband fit for the future.”
