Aldi full of beans in plastic removal

The supermarket chain has cut all plastic from its baked beans

Big Zero Report 2023

Aldi has announced that plastic packaging from its multipacks of baked beans will be removed, which will see 78 tonnes of single-use plastic prevented from reaching landfill each year.

The plastic shrink wrap which binds the four tins together has been given the axe but customers will still be given a discount for buying multiple cans.

It is also considering the removal of the outer plastic wrap from its sweetcorn tins, which would see 24 tonnes of plastic taken out of circulation annually.

Richard Gorman, Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, said: “We know it’s becoming increasingly important to our customers that their everyday products are environmentally friendly and we’re pleased that this move will help them shop more sustainably.”
