Northern Powergrid signs up to SBTi

The DNO will now look to electrify its fleet, install solar panels and other green measures at 50 of its sites

Big Zero Report 2023

Northern Powergrid’s pledge to achieve net zero by 2040 has been verified by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The distribution network operator (DNO) for the North East, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire is responsible for delivering power to eight million people and will now employ science-based targets to ensure it makes good on its climate promise.

The DNO will now look to electrify its fleet, install solar panels and renewable energy at 50 of its sites and look to cut the carbon footprint of its supply chain.

Environmental Manager, Gordon Walker, said: “Our customers, stakeholders and regulator have made it clear that reducing carbon emissions is a priority and setting challenging targets has made it possible for us to make this critical pledge for our company, customers and the communities we serve.”
