Centre teaching students how to make EVs gets green light

The City of Wolverhampton College is set to benefit from a new £8.1 million centre to train its students in building electric vehicles (EVs).

It has had its plans approved for the facility, which it claims will be used to teach thousands of students about EVs and create hundreds of jobs.

Set to be constructed on its Bilston campus, the site will look to prepare the area for the future importance of EVs within the city and the UK as a whole.

The funding is being provided by the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership, with building work expected to commence in the summer.

Councillor Stephen Simkins commented: “This is another important step towards our vision [and] it will also offer opportunities to access a new high-end workforce within our city - especially in Bilston.”
