Green light for £17m net zero office block in Bristol

Beard Construction has been chosen by CEG to deliver a £17 million net zero office block in the north of Bristol.

Set to be built in the Aztec West business park, it will be the South-West’s first net zero in operation office development out-of-town.

CBRE investors have provided funding for the project, with construction expected to start later this month.

Matt Cooper, Beard Construction Director, explained how the rebuilding purpose will have a positive benefit on emissions: “While working with an existing structure brings challenges, there are significant benefits as well.

“By repurposing the existing frame at 1000 Aztec West we can save a huge amount of carbon, as the original building is not destroyed and therefore the energy of the initial build is not wasted.”

Renewable energy will power the building, with solar photovoltaic (PV) panels deployed on the roof and energy efficient heating and lighting systems installed throughout.

It is expected to be completed in summer 2023.
