Del Monte Foods commits to net zero by 2050

Del Monte Foods has pledged to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

It has partnered with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to have its goals tracked and set short-term targets to cut Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.

The company has revealed it does not intend to offset these emissions with carbon credits and instead is looking to eliminate them.

It has installed a 3MW solar facility in its Californian facility, diverted more than 11,000 tonnes of food from landfill in the past two years and invested heavily in energy efficiency so far.

ESG Manager, Molly Laverty, said: “It's exciting to be aligned with the most aggressive path to net zero. The food industry has an important role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and Del Monte Foods is committed to doing all we can to accelerate progress.”
