London City Airport has opened its first electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Seven new stations were unveiled by CEO Robert Sinclair, to be used by passengers, staff and taxis.

Three 50KW rapid chargers and four 22KW have been installed by UK Power Networks Services, with service to be provided by BP Pulse.

Mr Sinclair said: “As we start to offer connections to more destinations and welcome returning and new passengers to the airport, I am hopeful that the electric charging stations will help re-affirm our position as the airport with the best sustainable transport links in the UK.”

Aviation Minister Robert Courts welcomed the announcement: “As we build back greener from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is great to see London City Airport leading the way in catering for the growing number of people who are switching to EVs.”
