Online hub launched to cut Solent plastic waste

It will provide information on recycling, disposal and equipment

Big Zero Report 2023

The Environment Agency has launched an online plastic pollution hub to prevent waste in the Hampshire coastline.

It is calling on local communities to collect and record litter found across the Solent, providing information on borrowing equipment, recycling, disposal and other initiatives.

The Solent Forum is hosting the online resources.

Lizzie Lewis from the Environment Agency said: “Each year an estimated 14 million pieces of plastic rubbish end up in and around our waterways, with around 500,000 pieces flowing out into our oceans, adversely affecting marine life and habitats.

“We know there’s lots of excellent work taking place across the Hampshire patch to improve river and coastal health. This new online resource will collate and publicise this activity.”
