Imperial launches free online courses on clean energy

Imperial College London has launched free online courses about clean energy and low carbon infrastructure.

Developed by the Grantham Institute and Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), three courses are available worldwide for free that teach students the benefits of renewable energy both environmentally and economically.

Imperial climate experts have provided three up-to-date case studies on the UK, Brazil and Indonesia.

More than 25,000 students from 170 countries have used the platform to date.

Leading figures in the sector including the UNFCCC’s Christiana Figueres and the International Energy Agency’s Fatih Birol feature in the course, which takes around two to five hours per week to complete across six weeks.

Alyssa Gilbert, Director of Policy and Translation at the Grantham Institute, said: “The cost of renewable energy continues to plummet at this pivotal time for action. This course helps participants from all over the world understand the range of benefits, at a local level, that renewable energy brings – from health to energy security.”
