DEAC to power data centres with renewable diesel fuel

Data centre operator DEAC has announced a partnership with Neste for the purchase of renewable diesel fuel.

It is buying 'MY Renewable Diesel' from Neste, which makes sustainable diesel and aviation fuel from recycled products.

Neste claims its product reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to fossil diesel use.

DEAC started buying renewable energy from wind farms in 2021 and plans to reach 100% green energy this year.

The latest deal with Neste will see the company boost the sustainability of data storage during potential electricity outages.

Andris Gailitis, CEO of DEAC said: “In 2021, DEAC already switched to 100% renewable electricity from wind farms for managing the day-to-day data storage. We also upgraded the infrastructure to reduce the energy consumption and introduced an improved cooling system.

“Our co-operation with Neste and the supply of Neste MY Renewable Diesel enable our diesel generators to sustainably safeguard the data in emergency situations, like power outages. With this, we are happy to mark the switch to 100% renewable energy sources.”
