Ontex commits to climate-neutral operations by 2030

Ontex, a provider of baby care and personal hygiene products and services, has made a commitment for climate-neutral operations by 2030.

The Belgium-based company aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, i.e. Scope 1 and 2 emissions, by 50%, compared to 2018 levels.

It intends to achieve its goals through onsite renewable energy production, energy savings, purchasing energy from renewable sources and carbon offsets via reforestation projects.

The company also aims to reduce emissions of its global supply chain, i.e. Scope 3 emissions, by 25% by 2030, by co-operating with its suppliers and focusing on sustainable product design and more efficient transport.

Ontex's 19 factories across five continents currently run on more than 70% renewable energy.

It has formally submitted its climate targets to the Science-based Target initiative (SBTi).

Annick De Poorter, Ontex’s Executive Vice President for Sustainability and Innovation said: “Climate change is threatening to disrupt every aspect of our lives–creating negative environmental impacts, food supply stress and socioeconomic instability.

“We see achieving climate-neutral operations by 2030 and reducing carbon emissions through our supply chain as essential to our long-term business success.”
