Edinburgh building £1.3bn net zero homes

Edinburgh building £1.3bn net zero homes

A £1.3 billion project to build 75 net zero homes in Edinburgh is currently underway.

Led by the City of Edinburgh Council, the homes are being built in the Northwest of the city, in Granton.

The council aims to deliver 20,000 affordable homes by 2027.

The homes being built will include zero-emission heating and construction will be carried out offsite in a factory to reduce transport emissions.

Edinburgh is looking to achieve net zero by 2030.

Councillor Kate Campbell said: “Making homes more sustainable will help us to meet our net zero targets, but the most important thing is that our tenants will benefit.

“With the cost of living rising sharply, making the running costs of homes more affordable will help tenants on low incomes, preventing fuel poverty.”
