Blackstone has invested $3 billion (£2.2bn) into Invenergy Renewables; the largest private renewable energy company in North America.

The investment has come in light of more questioning from investors on companies’ environmental impacts and sustainable credentials.

Invenergy’s renewable development and portfolio will expand heavily as a result of the investment, adding to its existing 175 projects across four continents.

Blackstone’s Global Head of Infrastructure Sean Klimczak said: “Blackstone is committed to investing behind the energy transition and Invenergy is the clear independent leader in the renewable energy sector.

“We look forward to a long-term partnership with the Invenergy and CDPQ teams and are excited to invest alongside them to support the accelerated build-out of Invenergy’s clean energy portfolio.”
