The Alibaba Group has announced aims to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030.
The Chinese e-commerce company has also set a Scope 3 emissions target – to facilitate 1.5 gigatonnes of decarbonisation across the business by 2035.
Alibaba has joined the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and had its emissions-based targets verified by the body.
Renewable energy, carbon removal initiatives and energy efficiency are at the forefront of the business’ carbon-neutral strategy.
CEO Daniel Zhang said: “We will leverage our unique influence as a platform operator to mobilise actions and behavioural changes among consumers, merchants and partners in China and around the world.”
