LEGO to build carbon-neutral factory in Vietnam

The LEGO Group has announced plans to build a carbon-neutral factory in Vietnam to manufacture its toys.

LEGO will invest more than $1 billion (£757m) in the site, including solar energy generation.

Construction is set to begin in 2022, with the factory being built just 50km from Ho Chi Minh City and set to create up to 4,000 jobs in the next 15 years.

Carsten Rasmussen, Chief Operations Officer, said: “We are very grateful for the support of the Vietnamese government in helping us achieve our ambition to build our first carbon-neutral factory.

“Their plans to invest in expanding renewable energy production infrastructure and a collaborative approach to working with foreign companies who are seeking to make high quality investments, were among the factors in our decision to build here.

“We want to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow and it is critical that we do so by acting in the most sustainable way possible.”
