Vattenfall commits to halve supply chain emissions by 2030

Vattenfall has pledged to halve its supply chain emissions by 2030.

This includes the carbon-intensity of the goods and services it uses, as it looks to tighten its plan of achieving net zero by 2040.

The company has revealed the key drivers of carbon emissions in its supply chain revolve around the extraction of raw materials such as concrete and steel – with transportation coming second.

One of the steps it has taken to tackle this so far is through the use of a new hydropower dam in Sweden that has a lower share of cement, resulting in what it claims is a 25% lower climate impact in the supply chain.

CEO Anna Borg commented: “Along with the great progress we have made in the last few years with regards to decarbonising our own operations, the relative impact from our supply chain is growing.

“We believe that through making climate-smart decisions when we procure and through cooperating with our suppliers, we can both lower our own emissions and push for a wider decarbonisation in society.”
