Viva Energy commits to net zero by 2050

Australian energy provider Viva Energy Group has pledged to achieve net zero across all its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050.

The supplier will invest in energy efficiency across its operational sites and buildings, use renewable electricity for its operations and offset any hard-to-abate emissions left over.

Its new Gas Terminal Project is being built with net zero in mind – looking to achieve net zero for its Scope 1 and 2 emissions for the life of the project, from construction all the way through to its operations.

For its refinery it has set a target of reducing the emissions intensity of the site by 10% by 2030.

Chairman Robert Hill said: “The liquid fuels and lubricants we supply will continue to play a critical role as the energy system transitions to a lower-carbon future.

“As well as setting our own Scope 1 and 2 emission goals today, we also have a number of initiatives in the new energies sector, to supply lower carbon fuels to the market in the future.

“These initiatives and our commitments to reduce our own carbon footprint, form an important part of Australia’s pathway to a lower-carbon energy system.”
