Royal Navy looking to get an electric feel

Hybrid-electric ships are being explored for use in the Royal Navy.

The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is looking for less carbon-intensive solutions for both Navy and Fleet Auxiliary ships on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.

DASA is aiming for hybrid powertrain technologies to be implemented by the end of the decade, as part of the defence environmental strategy to slash carbon emissions by 2050.

It is estimated that using these hybrid engines would cut the emissions from ships by up to 40%.

The exploration from the Ministry of Defence has been made open to the public to submit their innovations and ideas to electrify the vessels.
