East Sussex Council to invest £3m into tackling climate change

East Sussex County Council has committed to investing more than £3 million into tackling climate change and cutting emissions.

This is part of a wider £8.85 million investment to improve its infrastructure and roads.

Around £2 million will go towards replacing gas boilers with low carbon heating in schools and offices, solar panel installations at 10 council sites will get a £370,000 boost and £140,000 will go towards energy efficient lighting in 12 schools across the county.

The remaining £812,000 will go directly towards what it calls ‘climate change work’.

Councillor Nick Bennett commented: “The county council has set itself an ambitious target of reducing its carbon emissions by 13% each year and while we have made a strong start, we know that It is not going to be easy.

“The additional investment will go a long way in supporting our continuing efforts.”
