Mitsubishi Corporation to invest £12bn in becoming carbon-neutral

Mitsubishi Corporation has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, investing more than £12 billion in the next 10 years.

Its roadmap to carbon-neutrality includes halving its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 and it is looking to achieve this through the divestment of thermal power, purchasing renewable energy, implementing more energy efficient measures and switching fuel in its plants to hydrogen or ammonia.

By 2030, it has committed to investing more than £12 billion in renewable energy, copper to underpin electrification, natural gas, hydrogen, ammonia and other means to cut its carbon footprint.

Mitsubishi Corporation stated: “Mitsubishi Corporation is pleased to announce that it has established new GHG emissions reduction targets and energy transformation investment guidelines.

“In recognition of its multi-industry interests and business activities, [the company] will continue to simultaneously fulfil its responsibility to provide stable energy supply, such as natural gas, while rising to the global challenge of realising a carbon-neutral society.”
